Survey Says...

This week, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the class and the blog. Here is the list of questions that I would like you to answer. Please be honest; your grade will have no impact on what you say.

1. How helpful has the blog been to your learning? Do you enjoy doing it, or is it just annoying?
2. What would you like to learn in class? Is there anything that you feel like you need to know? This could be literature, writing, or reading.
3. What is your favorite aspect of class, and what is your least favorite?

1. The blog has not helped me learn at all and I find it annoying not helpful.
2.I would like to just be able to read books for fun :) I love reading, but can never find the time to read. I know that is not something I could learn or need to actually know, but it is what i am interested in. I would also like to become better at writing.
3.My favorite aspect of class is the independent reading assignments and my least favorite aspect would be the blogs!

1. I actually like the blog because they are easy and they are easy points if you do them. They really haven't taught me anything though.
2. I just think I still need help on writing too. I feel like the independent readings are much easier to write about than the others papers we have to write about the poems or stories.
3. My favorite thing would be the independent reading assignments and my least favorite thing would be all the British Literature poems and stories because I find them very hard to understand and follow.

1. The blogs are okay, they haven't really helped me much but its cool to do them. Its not annoying in my opinion because it is easy points that you get when you do them.
2. I'm not really sure what I would like to learn in class.
3. I like class for the most part but I don't really like the essay question things even though I know we have to do them to work on our writing, I like the independent reading assignments, I don't really like having to get up in front of the class and talking.

1.I don’t really think that this blog has helped me to learn anything that I can use in class but it has helped me to discover new things and places. I actually find the blog to be enjoyable. I think it is because this is one place where we can say how we feel and what we think about things and we know that you are listening to our thoughts.
2. I don’t really have anything in particular that I want to learn but I would LOVE to do more book critiques!! That is my absolute favorite thing to do in class and one of my favorite projects that I have ever had the opportunity to do in an English class. But if I had to pick something to work on I would pick writing, because even though I hate doing it I feel like I’m weak in that area and could improve upon it.
3. My favorite part of class is writing the book reviews, because I think it gives us a chance to voice our opinions about the books and it also gives us time to read in class. My least favorite thing to do in class is group work because I feel like the class is really divided and no one works with new people, but instead works with their friends.

1. I haven't learned anything useful from the blogs and they are kind of annoying but I like getting the points for them.
2. I would like to learn how to be a better writer. I hate writing, but I need to improve in that area.
3. My favorite part of class is how we get to work together and we don't just sit and do book work all the time. My least favorte part of class is writing papers and analyzing the poems.

1. The blog has had no real effect on me. I find it funny to read peoples posts on some topics and enjoy doing the funny ones. It's not that annoying saying it is 5 free points for just putting your ideas onto a web page.
2. I enjoy the independent reading. I wouldn't mind doing that again because i will not read unless it is assigned to me even though i somewhat enjoy it.
3. Favorite-reading
least favorite-journals

1. The blog is just busy work not helping me learn.
2. We don't analyze the literature. The class just looks at the plot on the surface, without looking into any literary devices.
3. The whole class is kind of pointless, since we covered the skills we are "learning" this year in my Freshman and Sophmore honors English class

1. The blog hasn't really taght me anything except to remember homework. It depends on the topic.
2. Learn how to overthrow the teacher if they become to cruel.I need to know how to quote properly.
3. My favorite aspect of the class is group progects. my least favorite part is writing soo many papers and book reveiws and fallowing the dumb MLA format!

1. I wouldn't consider the blog to assist in my learning but it is easy ways to earn points!

2. Becoming a better writer is important to me but I don't think assigning a bunch of difficult papers to write and getting bad grades on them is benefical, ecspecially with little to no class time to work on it with you. I think we should set aside a day each week to have free read as well :)

3. My favorite is the indepdent reading and when you explain things to us in expressive ways. My least favorite aspect would be the British literature with difficult "poems" that are usually boring and very hard to understand

1. The blog has been really helpful. It has giving me back ground information on the things that we have been learning. And it also helps me understand the topics more. I do enjoy it the blogs every week.
2. No theres nothing that i would like to learn because to be honest i hate english and reading and writing.
3. My favorite aspect of the class would have to been the blogs, free rice, and when we read the book aloud in class. My least favorite thing is writing the essays and reading independent novels.

1. The blog has not assisted my leraning process at all. i find it annoying and hard to remember to complete.
2. I need help with writing essays. i find the papers hard to make of good quality.
3. My favorite aspect of class is the short stories but my least favorite part of class is writing papers.

Jenny Sweitzer said...

1. I never remember to do the blog because of all the other homework we have in this class plus homework from other classes, so forgetting the blog causes my grade to drop and it's really inconvenient.
2. I would rather learn more about how to write better essays, even though I hate writing them. I just think it is a better use of learning time and I'm honestly never going to use my knoweledge about Beowulf or Canterberry Tails in my life.
3. I hate all the book work we have to do and all the old English poetry. I do not understand poetry and it is really hard for me to keep up with what is going on. I really like the independent reading assignments because it actually allows me to choose what I'm interested in reading. I also like the projects where we are allowed to work in groups because it makes the project easier and less stressful.

Taryn Wellborn said...

1. I definately think the blog does nothing for my learning..its my opinion usually too. I think its annoying.
2. I would like to do some more writing practice. Not timed or anything just helpful ideas for making a better paper. Also a day or two when we could just come in and read then share our thoughts on our book in a page or two.
3. My least favorite is probably the blog because its just one more thing to remember but i love the reading assignments and the drawing/coloring creative projects.

Kevin Hetrick said...

1. I don't mind the blogs. They are sometimes interesting and I think its is funny reading what others write.
2.In class, i would like to learn more about writing papers because i feel like hat is something i could improve upon.
3. Favorite- Independent Reading
Least Favorite- The projects that we do in class like the skits and the most recent one with the bag of 10 items.

Katie Asbury said...

1. The blog is sometimes hard to remember to do just because we always have other homework to do in class but it depends on the topic. I like it some of the time.
2. I'm really bad at writing essays that actually have a deeper meaing. I feel as if I'm always repeating myself but wording it different when the essay or paper has to be a certain length. I need to work on that although I hate writing.
3. I love the independent reading projects just because I enjoy to read things I like but never find the time or patience. Plus it's easy points.

Carolyn Daley said...

1.Even though the blog is pretty annoying i like it because its an easy 5 points and you have the oppurtunity to learn some cool things.
2. I would like to learn more about writing skills because i think that writing is an importart part of life.
3.My favorite part of class is the independent reading assignments and my least favorite part would be the essays on the poems we read.

1. I don't really mind doing the blog, it doesnt take up much time and is easy to do. BUT the only annoying thing is, is that i always forget to write on the blog and i can never remember my user name or password so i have to make a new one every time which gets so annoying because that takes longer than the whole blog.
2. No, I am fine with whatever.
3. I strongly dislike poetry because i can never understand it in the right way, and i dont really like anything better than another, its all english so whatev.

Zac Harford said...

1. The blogs have not helped me at all in the class. All of the blogs so far have just been extra information or work for the current topic without having any real impact on what we do in class. It isn't too bothersome to come on this website and type a short statement every week, but it does annoy me because it is pointless.
2. There is nothing I feel like I need to learn in this class. I have good vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills, and I already read books on my own outside of school.
3. My least favorite part of this class is the projects and skits because it is all elemenary and a waste of time. Bringing in ten items that represent the Pardoner teaches me nothing, and drawing a cartoon of Beowulf doesn't help me understand anything about Old English literature.

1. The blogs haven't really taught me anything so far. It is easy points if you do them, but it is also alittle bit annoying to remember to do them every week.
2. I think that i still need to learn more about writting. I think that the independent writting assigments are really helpful and are also fun to do.
3. My favorite part of class is probably the independent reading assignments. When I find an interesting and good book, I really like to continue reading it. My least favorite part of class would probably be, reading and analyzing the british poems. They are hard to understand what the poems are trying to say.

Unknown said...

1. To me, the blog doesn't seem necessary. There have been a few times where I have learned some interesting details about things but that is about it. I would probably rather just discuss things in class.

2. I don't really know what I would like to learn in class. Historical things always interest me, but this isn't really a history class.

3. My favorite part of the class would probably be the independent reading projects, considering I love reading. In agreement with Harford, my least favorite part of the class would be the skits and bringing things in. While some people may find them fun, I see them as rather elementary and they don't benefit anyone's knowledge.

mollyries said...

1. I think the blogs are easy. If you do them every week, you get easy points.
2. I would like to be able to read books more and not just out of the literature book.
3. My favorite thing we do in class is the independent reading because it's not hard at all and it's an easy 100 points. My least favorite is the reading out of the literature book because it is hard to understand.

Corrie Dignan said...

1. This blog has not helped me much and it is kind of annoying trying to remember it every week.
2. I would like to do stuff that entertains us. Like to find interesting books or an interesting topic to write about.
3. My favorite part of the class is getting to pick out my own book for independent reading. When we read the books you assign us I dont usually get into it and want to keep reading. My least favorite is reading stories that are in our books.

kaitlyn said...

i only liked the bath one. i think the blogs ARE SO annoying and not helpful, but they are easy points. reading is so boring and i would like to read less. the people who commented about reading on here that want to read more in class should read whatever they want on their own free time, not take time from class to read. i would want to learn more about ancient buildings and stuff. MY LEAST favorite aspect of the class are the reading assignments. my favorite is just listening

3. My favorite aspect of the class is group work such as the survey. It gives us a chance to be creative and share ideas. My least favorite aspect is writing essays because feel like I don't really know what I'm doing. I also don't like the old english poems. They are very difficult to understand and I often get lost.

1. I find that the blog is more annoying than actually helping me learn. Basically i don't see why we do it every week besides the fact it is an easy 5 points.
2. I want to know how to write papers but not actually write them, just get tools to help me in the upcoming years.
3. I like the journals and class discussions but i hate the papers because there are way too many in a short amount of time. I personally think there should be atleast a 1-2 week barrier in between papers.

1) I like doing the blogs for the points, but I find them kind of annoying because they just take up time when I am not really learning anything.
2) I would like to have more time to read the books of our choice during class because that is the only time I acutally have the time to read.
3) My favorite thing to do in this class is the independent reading assignments and the worst part is the long papers we have to write! (especially when we get no time in class to write them)

Kayla Sanson said...

I like the blog because its easy points and its not that bad, but some of the subjects can be pretty boring.
I just wish we didnt have so much work to do in your class we always write and its boring.
My favorite thing would have to be the group projects there fun and easy points. My least favorite thing is reading poems and storys from the book oh and taking notes.

JON AHRENS said...

I dont mind the blog when I do it. I think it should be an in-class thing or not be every week. I think its real hard to keep track of but find it fun to debate about stuff. I would like to not write as many papers the wrong way and find out the right way. My favorite aspect of class is when we do class activities. Such as the reading circle we did and things like that. The worst is having to write papers.

Zak Kocsis said...

1. The blogs aren't bad but it is always hard to remember to do them. I haven't gained much from them other than the research that I have had to do.
2. I would like to do more work outside of the literature book because I have a higher chance of reading if it is not in a huge book that I have to carry around.
3. I like the independent reading because it drives me to actually read something good. I am not a fan of the writing assignments that we have to complete during class. I write better when I am not surrounded by others.

3. I reaaly like the independent reading assignments, it's there that I feel like I have a choice in learning. My least favorite is the essays we have to do, the cause so much trouble for me.

3. I enjoy class discussions and group projects, however i do not enjoy excessive work and long essays that we have not discussed enough in class so it feels like a constant writers block because i don't even know where i should start or what is expected. If we had sample essays for the essays that we were supposed to write then it would be easier to do because we would know what you are expecting.
